Cooking the books by Kerry Greenwood
This is the 6th title featuring the loveable baker and somewhat reluctant sleuth Corinna Chapman. Corinna is on holidays, her apprentice Jason (muffin master) is away surfing, Daniel is busy chasing lost bonds and Kylie and Goss have secured parts in a soap opera series being filmed at a Docklands studio. When the caterer for the soap opera asks Corinna to help out baking bread, the story starts to get interesting as the star of the soap is being targeted, and at the same time Corinna is helping Daniel investigate bullying and crooked accountants. There's a lot going on, but Kerry Greenwood again manages to tie it all together for a fantastic ending involving sardines and a runaway tiger on the set of a soap opera! I love this series, it has a quirky sense of humour and you always come away with a smile knowing that you've had an entertaining read (plus you can't go past the recipes which are included!). Portrait of a spy /Daniel Silva
Portrait of A Spy is Daniel Silva's latest book in the Gabriel Allon series.
I loved this book! It is not the usual type of book I read, but it got me in from the first page. Gabriel Allon is an art restorer who leads a double life as an Israeli assassin, of course he is the good guy! It gave me a little insight into the goings on in the Middle East.
After reading this book I had to read more of the series and read The Kill Artist ,The English Assissin and Confessor in quick succession and really enjoyed them all.

Karin Slaughter / Fallen
Karin Slaughter is an author I can rely on for a great police-procedural thriller. "Fallen" doesn't disappoint and features characters from her previous novels.
Within the first few pages Special Agent Faith Mitchell returns home to find bodies, blood, chaos and her mother missing. With Faith suspended from duty Will Trent must piece together a challenging and brutal case to catch a murderer that will just keep killing.
The subtle tension as the relationship develops between Will (who has one NASTY wife!) and Dr Sarah Linton is intriguing - can't wait to see how it unfolds in the next installment.
Satisfying, with enough twists, turns and sub plots to make you want to finish it in one go.

High Society/Ben Elton

High Society is a story about Britain today, a criminal nation in which everybody is either breaking the law or knows people who do. It takes the reader on a hilarious, heartbreaking and terrifying journey through the kaleidoscope world that the law has created.
The story revolves around Peter Paget MP, who is presenting a private members bill to legalise drugs - all drugs, from pot to crack. Linked to this story line we have several others, that are all linked by drugs. All these stories ilustrate the affects drugs have on people and society, from the poor to the rich. At times the novel is depressing, while at others it is hilariously funny - Everyone should read this book!

Sweet and Deadly/ Charlaine Harris
Before the Southern Vampire series made her famous, True Blood author Charlaine Harris wrote more traditional mysteries. Sweet and Deadly, her first published book, has been brought back into print after nearly 30 years. Set in the small town of Lowfield, Mississippi, it is a gothic-influenced novel about a series of murders starting with the town doctor and his wife. Six months later, newspaper reporter Catherine, the daughter of the murdered couple, discovers a body at an abandoned cabin on the family land. At first, Catherine is the only one who believes that the new murder is connected to her parents' death, but her eager fellow reporter, Tom, desperate for a big story, joins her investigation, and together they begin to uncover a plethora of small-town secrets. Taut, tense, and compelling, this stellar debut is a terrific small-town mystery. While Sookie fans may miss the vampires, they will be enchanted with tough, lonely Catherine and will find some similarities in the insular setting.
The Baker Street Letters / Michael Robertson
04/11/2010
First in a spectacular new series about two brother lawyers who lease offices on London's Baker Street - and begin receiving mail addressed to Sherlock Holmes.
In Los Angeles, a geographical surveyor maps out proposed subway route - and then goes missing. His eight-year-old daughter, in her desperation, turns to the one person she thinks might help - she writes a letter to Sherlock Holmes.
That letter creates uproar at 221b Baker Street, which now houses the law offices of attorney and man about town Reggie Heath and his hapless brother, Nigel. Instead of filing the letter as he's supposed to, Nigel decides to investigate. Soon he's flying off to Los Angeles, inconsiderately leaving a very dead body on the floor in his office. Big brother Reggie follows Nigel to California, as does Reggie's sometime lover, Laura - a quick-witted stage actress who's captured the hearts of both brothers. When Nigel is arrested, Reggie must use all his wits to solve a case that Sherlock Holmes would have savoured and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle fans will adore.
